The Grumpy George Pub - Kitchen Nightmares Update

On this week's episode of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay is in Georgetown, Texas to help out The Grumpy George Pub & Grub.  Despite being an English pub, The Grumpy George still lacks an identity.  Gordon is served a dish that is supposed to be vegetarian, but he finds bacon mixed in with the brussels sprouts

Kitchen Nightmares visited The Grumpy George Pub & Grub in October 2024 to film the episode, and I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments and reviews about The Grumpy George to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Gordon Ramsay visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Kitchen Nightmares):

Positive Reviews:

  • "Nice little bar in downtown Georgetown. The bartenders are friendly and prompt. They have a really nice cocktail menu! The drinks are great! Austin/Dallas prices for sure hehe but I'd love to go back."
  • "Grumpy is a great addition to the Georgetown Square. We three stopped by for Apps and cocktails. This is a British-themed bar with some interesting brews on tap. Our Apps were large and our craft cocktails were good pours."
  • "This is one of those places where you come in to have a drink and a good conversation.
  • The atmosphere is phenomenal, the service is great, and the inside of the place is super pleasant.
  • I just had a couple of drinks and didn't have much to eat, however the menu looks enticing."
  • "We went on the first night of the soft opening after the refresh and a week later and the food was excellent and service was timely and attentive, considering how busy they were."
  • "Fish and chips were amazing! Lightly battered, well cooked fish. The scotch eggs were great too. Great selection of beverages focusing on British offerings. The decor takes you back to a traditional English pub. Thanks for an amazing experience. We will be back!"
  • "Nice little pub. Service was great, as well the scotch egg and crispy shrimp were very good. Always enjoy being able to get a half and half all draft beer. If you are in the area stop by, it is well worth it. Will definitely go again when I am in town."
  • "Since the recent changes made the ambience of the pub is much more comfortable. The chips are excellent, the cost of drink are wonderful, and the service is exceptional. Love the dart room btw!"
  • "This place has improved tremendously! The atmosphere, staff and food are absolutely amazing. Authentic Shepard's pie, and a 20oz black and tan is the go to. Everything is delicious so you can't go wrong."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Sadly, this restaurant has gone downhill. It used to be our favorite restaurant on the Square. There were three of us dining last night. We shared an appetizer, and each had 2 glasses of wine/beer, and an entree each. The total was over $180! They must have really increased the price of their drinks? I don't recall seeing prices on the bar menu. The dinner menu is very limited... not much to choose from anymore. Smaller portions (only one sad piece of crumbly fish was included with the Fish and Chips!) and reduced quality (the steak was tiny and overcooked). The entire restaurant smelled of fish. Service was really slow, only two people to serve and tend bar. Food and service used to be awesome. Really disappointed. I doubt we'll be going back."
  • "We were excited to try this place after hearing the hype of a new menu. It’s a quaint English / Austin style pub in a great location next to the square in Georgetown. Welcoming on arrival, and service was good. Disappointed in the food- the Scotch egg was pretty bland and lacked salt. The bangers & mash were okay but nothing super special. I was going to try the shepherds pie but the server convinced me to try the beef pastie. It was tasty but somewhat lonely on the plate. Honestly I expected more. I wished I’d tried the shepherds pie though as I see rave reviews."
