Da Mimmo - Kitchen Nightmares Update

On this week's episode of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay is in Dumont, NJ to help out the restaurant Da Mimmo.  Da Mimmo was opened in November 2022 by a trio of TikTok influencers Antonio, Vincent, and Vito who are all brothers. Despite being a new restaurant, they are already having financial problems.  When Gordon Ramsay enters the kitchen, he says it smells like Snoop Dogg has been in there. 

Kitchen Nightmares visited Da Mimmo in June 2023 to film the episode, and I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments and reviews about Da Mimmo to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Gordon Ramsay visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Kitchen Nightmares):




Positive Reviews:

• "Pizza was excellent. Calamari so fresh. The waiters were so friendly and accommodating. I absolutely love the new decor. Such a beautiful classy place to host a party. I highly recommend"
• "Tried this place for the first time last night and it was an amazing experience. The staff was great. Everyone was so welcoming and the service was 10/10. The food was incredible. Great date night spot. We can't wait to come back!"
• "Came in on a rainy Saturday and had dinner at the pizza bar. I ordered an Aroncini appetizer, panzanela salad and Margarita pizza. Everything tasted great. The Neopolitan pizza was one of the best I had. The menu is in the process of being expanded so I’m looking forward to going back to try new dishes."
• "Love this place! Amazing family, amazing food! You have to taste the margarita pizza! My personal favorite but all the food is great! Come check it out, you won’t be disappointed!!!"

Negative Reviews:

• "Just ordered an order of fried calamari and what I got for 22.00 was a kids meal. Unbelievable will not go back. I returned the order do not recommend"
• "I had such high hopes for this place since GR made his appearance here, needless to say it was very disappointing the dough on the pizza was like a naan lacking flavor as well also had the pork ragu not terrible but not great! They also made us a caprice salad and specifically asked for just oil and vinegar he brought it with balsamic glaze my 5 yr old in the party got chicken tenders and fries that were burnt all around a bad food experience. Service was good and decor but food so lacking sorry Da Mimmo we won't be back!"
• "We were very rushed. The pizza was good all the other food was just ok. The waiter practically had dinner at our table was trying to order for us and add items that we did not want. They wanted us to pay for the entertainment. They should of told us when we made the reservation that there was going to be a cover charge for entertainment even if we were just coming in for dinner."

• The restaurant was listed for sale for about a week in October 2023 right before the episode aired, but the listing agent said that the listing should have never been active.  He did confirm the brothers are exploring moving locations though. (Link)

• The restaurant takes times time to respond to reviews on Yelp and Google.
• In a recent response to a review, the restaurant said they will be having a new menu in the week after the episode airs.

Conclusion:

The reviews for Da Mimmo since the Kitchen Nightmares makeover have been mixed with people having differing opinions on the food. The restaurant takes time to respond to online reviews and seems they will be putting out a new menu soon. Da Mimmo was listed for sale right before the episode aired, but that was apparently a mistake by the listing agent and they are potentially looking to move locations.  Due to that, this will be one to watch to see if they move or end up closing.
