24 Hours To Hell And Back - Patrick Molloy's Update

Tonight on 24 Hours To Hell and Back, Gordon Ramsay is in Hermosa Beach California to try to save Patrick Molloy's. Patrick Molloy's is a family-owned restaurant located on the Hermosa Beach Pier that opened in 1996. When Gordon arrives, he figures out that a deep-rooted family feud has been negatively impacting the restaurant.  He also finds that Patrick, who the restaurant is named after, isn't pulling his weight around the restaurant.

Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Patrick Molloy's since 24 Hours To Hell and Back and Gordon Ramsay made all of the changes to the restaurant (note - all reviews are post-makeover).

Positive Reviews:
  • "Patrick Molloys has gone through a recent remodel which they have also upgraded the menu. I liked the buffalo wings before but I must say the new wings falls off the bone because it's so tender. I'm loving the new look, food and management staff. Manager Katrina aims to make everyone happy. She goes above and beyond. Big shot out to her and our best server Stephanie."
  • "Had a great time here! I would suggest some day drinking and taking advantage of their happy hour. It was 50% off all drinks and the apps were a great price as well."
  • "First off with dinner, Jessica served us and she was super polite and even reminded us of the happy hour specials. After we ate we sat at the bar and Adriana was awesome. I would definitely eat here again!!! 5 stars for everybody!!!"

Negative Reviews:

  • "This new makeover is horrible, what happened to our regular sunday funday hangout.. I always believed that having more seating equals more money, not the otherway around.. the new more expensive menu lost the charm that it used to have... gordon ramsay doesnt know anything about a beach bar.."
  • "The new outside dining area is horrible!!!!! I guess they don't want customers to comfortable. Patrick Malloy's used to have the best outside dining area near the pier in Hermosa. They had. Big comfortable leather benches it was perfect place to enjoy a meal they now have uncomfortable metal chairs and tables. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING."
  • "Terrible service omg its all pack and the bar tenders taking their time and texting on their phones in fromt of everyone"
  • "If you go in at happy hour it's decently priced, but the normal prices are a little high. The staff is inconsistent, there are some great members of the staff but also some that are lacking. Overall it's a very average place that has its moments but hard to justify going to with so many other choices so close."
  • "We ALL had the worse service ever by Breanna (waitress). She was rude, fake, and had the audacity to overcharge each of us. (We are pretty sure she pocketed our money) Our orders were wrong, took forever to come out, and after a couple of hours or poor service and inaccurate bills, we gave up, paid and left. On top of it all, the drinks were WEAK, small and overpriced. Not worth our time at all.....All 6 of us will NEVER return. A piss poor excuse for a restaurant/bar establishment."

  • In January 2018, the Hermosa Beach Planning Commission rejected the changes done by Gordon Ramsay and 24 Hours to Hell and Back. The changes that needed approval were "removing a half wall between the bar and dining areas, installing movable tables and chairs, and relocating the DJ booth to the rear of the restaurant." Prior to filming, owner Fred Hahn was told by producers that they obtained all of the proper permitting, so Fred was OK with agreeing to the show.  After filming, the production company admitted their mistake and didn't think that the floor plan arrangement required a new permit application.(Link)

Conclusion:

The reviews for Patrick Molloy's after the 24 Hours to Hell and Back makeover by Gordon Ramsay are mixed with there being slightly more negative reviews than positive reviews.  People like the atmosphere and happy hour specials while others have complaints about the service, the makeover and the food prices.   It seems like Patrick Molloy's operates as more of a bar/pub than a restaurant.

Patrick Molloy's also had issues with the changes made by 24 Hours to Hell and Back because the show's producers did not get the correct permits from Hermosa Beach.  Patrick Molloy's had to get rid of some of the changes done by the show due to this.
